![]() “As Halloween approaches, there have been many inquiries regarding Abington Township’s position and guidance on Halloween Activities. Below is the full statement from the Township, which can also be viewed on the website by clicking here. However, it is very much in the interest of the Township for everyone to remain safe, and as we have in recent months, Abington asks that you base your level and type of activity on both best practice recommendations from the CDC and Montgomery County Department of Health, as well as your own comfort and safety. It would be inappropriate for the Township to pretend that it had the authority to either “permit” or “cancel” Halloween activities. Unlike some other municipalities, Abington Township does not schedule or organize Halloween trick-or-treating. Often, the weather can cause delays or changes in the pick up days. Please keep in mind that the Township tries to stick to this schedule as close as possible. Pick up details below, or click here to view on the Township website. The option to let your leaves decompose also helps save time, and avoids pollution-noise and otherwise-caused by leaf blowers. Decomposing leaves also help greatly with soil health. ![]() Many scientists recommend not raking leaves, as it can disrupt the natural lifecycle of many animals that live in the soil. Like with most things in life, though, there’s another option and more to consider. They are picked up both because of their ability to be recycled into mulch and also to help keep the roads clear and as safe as possible. Leaves are brought back to the Florey Lane facility and are turned into mulch for use across Abington. ![]() If we are unable to do this because of budget pressures, hiccups because of the weather, or any other reason, I will let you know.
